The Memorare (Remember, O Most Gracious Virgin Mary)

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help, or sought thine intercession
was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence,
I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother;
to thee do I come, before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.

Attributed to Saint Bernard, this prayer expresses absolute confidence in the mercy of the Virgin. “Never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection… was left unaided”.

All about the Memorare

What is the meaning of this prayer?

It is an appeal to the “jurisprudence” of mercy: since Mary has never abandoned anyone, she cannot start with us today. It is the audacity of faith.

Who is this prayer for?

For those who are at the end of their rope, desperate sinners, and all those who need quick intervention from Heaven.
